Toyota Tacoma (N400, 2024-2026) Owner's Manual: Checking the Rear and Surroundings with the Camera

The following rear camera views are available when the shift lever is in a position other than P on Toyota Tacoma models equipped with an automatic transmission, or when the parking brake is disengaged on vehicles with a manual transmission. The available display can be selected according to the area behind and around the vehicle that needs to be checked.

Panoramic view & rear view

Select the rear view button first, and then switch the panoramic view button ON. This combines the rear-facing image with the panoramic representation of the surrounding area, providing a broader visual reference while maneuvering the Toyota Tacoma.

Wide rear view

Select the rear view button, and then switch the panoramic view button OFF. The monitor will change to the wide rear view, emphasizing the area behind the vehicle without the accompanying panoramic image.

Rear split view

Select the rear split view button to display the divided rear camera image. This view separates the available rear visual information into the screen arrangement shown in the illustration.

 Checking the bed

Select the bed view button to display the camera view used for checking the truck bed area. This provides an additional visual reference when the driver needs to observe the bed from inside the Toyota Tacoma.

Checking around the vehicle

The moving view and see-through view screens assist with checking the areas immediately surrounding the vehicle, particularly while parking or maneuvering in confined spaces. The system combines images captured by four cameras into a single representation of the area around the vehicle. Depending on the selected mode, the screen can present a 360º view from an angled bird's-eye perspective or a see-through representation that helps the driver understand the position of nearby surroundings relative to the Toyota Tacoma.

To display the moving view or see-through view screen, press when the shift lever is in P on vehicles with an automatic transmission, or when the transmission is not in R and the parking brake is engaged on vehicles with a manual transmission, while the intuitive parking assist is enabled. The display can then be used as a supplemental aid for visually checking the surrounding area.

1. Display mode switching button
   Select this button to switch the display between moving view and see-through view. Each mode presents the surroundings from a different visual perspective.
2. Rotation pause switch
   Select this switch to temporarily stop the rotation of the displayed image. This can make it easier to examine a particular area around the vehicle.
   To resume the rotating display, select .
3. Body color setting switch
   Select this switch to open the body color setting screen. From this screen, the color of the computer-generated vehicle shown on the panoramic view monitor can be changed to more closely represent the vehicle.

3D view

The 3D view assists the driver in checking the area around the vehicle perimeter when operating in narrow or confined spaces. The three-dimensional representation provides another perspective for understanding the relationship between the vehicle and nearby surroundings.

The viewing position of the 3D display can be changed by selecting one of the six available camera angle switches. Changing the angle makes it possible to examine the surrounding area from several predefined perspectives without physically moving the vehicle.

To display the 3D view, select the 3D view button after pressing while the shift lever is in a range other than P. The selected camera angle can then be adjusted using the controls displayed on the screen.

The display position of the 3D view can be changed by using the camera angle controls, allowing the surrounding area to be examined from the available viewpoints.

Pressing on the screen or pressing again returns the display to the screen that was shown previously, such as the navigation screen.

Checking the front and around the vehicle

The panoramic view & front view, wide front view, and front split view screens assist with checking the area directly ahead of the vehicle as well as the surrounding space. These views are particularly useful when the Toyota Tacoma is starting from a T-intersection or another intersection where visibility to the front or sides is limited, providing supplementary camera information that can help the driver assess the area before proceeding.

To display the screen, press when the shift lever is in D or N on vehicles with an automatic transmission, or when the parking brake is disengaged on vehicles with a manual transmission, while the Toyota Tacoma is traveling at approximately 10 mph (16 km/h) or less. The function is intended for low-speed operation when additional visibility around the front of the vehicle may be useful.

This screen may also appear automatically when the intuitive parking assist detects an object in front of the vehicle. In this situation, the panoramic view monitor operates as an intuitive parking assist linked display, providing additional visual information about the area ahead of the Toyota Tacoma.

 Screen display

Each time the display mode switching button is selected, the monitor changes to the next available viewing mode. The different displays provide alternative ways to check the area in front of and around the vehicle according to the current maneuvering situation.

Panoramic view & front view

1. Distance guide lines
   Indicate a reference distance in front of the vehicle to help the driver judge the space ahead.
   • The displayed points represent positions approximately 3 ft. (1 m) from the edge of the bumper.
2. Intuitive parking assist
   When a sensor detects an obstacle, the monitor indicates the direction of the detected object and its approximate distance from the vehicle. At the same time, the buzzer sounds to provide an additional warning.
3. Estimated course lines
   Show the approximate path the Toyota Tacoma is expected to follow according to the steering wheel position.
   • These lines are displayed when the steering wheel is turned 90º or more away from the centered, straight-line position.
4. Guide line switching button
   Select this button to switch the guide line display between distance guide line mode and estimated course line mode, depending on which reference is more useful for the current maneuver.
5. Automatic display button
   Select to turn the automatic display mode on or off.
6. Display mode switching buttons
   Use these buttons individually or in the available combinations to change between the different panoramic view monitor screens.

Wide front view

1. Distance guide lines
   Provide a visual reference for estimating the distance in front of the vehicle.
   • The displayed points correspond to positions approximately 3 ft. (1 m) from the edge of the bumper.
2. Intuitive parking assist
   If a sensor identifies an obstacle, the system displays its approximate direction and distance while also sounding the buzzer. Use this information together with direct observation of the area ahead.
3. Automatic display button
   Select this control to enable or disable automatic display mode.
4. Display mode switching buttons
   The screen can be changed among the available camera views by selecting the appropriate button or button combination.

Front split view

1. Distance guide lines
   Show reference distances in front of the vehicle for both portions of the displayed view.
   • Split view: The indicated points are approximately 1.5 ft. (0.5 m) from the edge of the bumper.
   • Panoramic view: The indicated points are approximately 3 ft. (1 m) from the edge of the bumper.
2. Vehicle width guide lines
   Indicate the approximate width of the Toyota Tacoma, including the outside rear view mirrors, to provide a visual reference when judging clearance around the vehicle.
3. Zoom button
   Select this button to magnify the front split view that is currently displayed, making the selected camera image easier to examine.
4. Front tire guide lines
   Show reference lines corresponding to the areas where the front tires contact the ground.
5. Automatic display button
   Select to switch automatic display mode on or off.
6. Intuitive parking assist
   When an obstacle is detected by a sensor, the screen indicates its direction and approximate distance from the vehicle, while the buzzer provides an audible warning.

• Pressing on the screen or returns the display to the screen that was shown previously, such as the navigation screen.
• Refer to the corresponding intuitive parking assist information for additional details about the operation and indications of that system.
• The position at which the intuitive parking assist indication appears on the display does not necessarily correspond exactly with the position of the obstacle shown in the camera image. Judge the surrounding area using both sources of information together with direct visual checks.

WARNING

• If a sensor indicator on the intuitive parking assist display illuminates in red or the buzzer sounds continuously, immediately check the entire area around the Toyota Tacoma. Do not continue moving the vehicle until you have confirmed that it is safe to proceed. Failing to verify the surroundings may result in contact with an obstacle, person, or another vehicle and could lead to an unexpected accident.
• Because the intuitive parking assist indication is superimposed over the camera image, it may sometimes be difficult to distinguish clearly. Visibility of the indicator can vary depending on the color, contrast, and brightness of the surrounding area shown on the screen, so do not rely on the display alone when judging nearby obstacles.

 Switching the guide line mode (panoramic view & front view mode)

Each time the guide line switching button is selected, the panoramic view & front view changes between the available guide line modes described below. Select the mode that provides the most useful visual reference for the current maneuver.

Distance guide line

• Only the distance guide lines are displayed, providing a reference for judging the approximate space in front of the vehicle.

Estimated course line

• Estimated course lines are displayed in addition to the distance guide lines. These lines provide an additional reference for the projected path of the Toyota Tacoma according to the steering position.

 Using the vehicle width guide line (front split view mode)

The front split view screen displays images captured by the cameras installed on the outside rear view mirrors. This view is intended to assist the driver when checking the areas along both sides of the vehicle, particularly in situations such as traveling along a narrow road or positioning the Toyota Tacoma close to a curb or other roadside object.

• Observe the position of the vehicle width guide line and compare the displayed clearance with the target object, such as an obstacle or the edge of a curb. Use the relationship between the guide line and the object as a visual reference while also checking the actual surroundings.

• Move toward the curb as illustrated, taking care to keep the vehicle width guide line from overlapping the target object. Maintaining visible clearance on the screen helps provide a reference while positioning the vehicle.
• Confirm that the vehicle width guide line appears parallel to the target object. This relationship can help the driver judge the vehicle's alignment while pulling alongside a curb or similar boundary.

 Automatic display mode

In addition to manually changing the camera screen by operating , the system includes an automatic display mode. When this mode is active, the panoramic view monitor can switch to the appropriate camera image automatically according to vehicle speed and operating conditions.

Each time the "AUTO" button is selected, automatic display mode is alternately enabled or disabled. The current setting determines whether the monitor changes to the camera display automatically under the specified conditions.

When automatic display mode is enabled, the monitor automatically displays camera images in the following situations:

• When the shift lever is moved to D or N on vehicles with an automatic transmission, or when the parking brake is disengaged on vehicles equipped with a manual transmission.
• When vehicle speed decreases to approximately 10 mph (16 km/h) or less, allowing the surrounding camera view to be presented during low-speed operation.

Checking the rear and around the vehicle

The panoramic view & rear view, wide rear view, and rear split view screens assist the driver in checking the area directly behind the vehicle as well as the surrounding space. These displays are particularly useful while reversing the Toyota Tacoma, such as when entering or leaving a parking space.

The applicable rear camera screens are displayed when the shift lever is placed in R, allowing the driver to select the view best suited to the reversing situation.

 Screen display

Each time the display mode switching button is selected, the monitor changes between the available rear viewing modes as follows:

• Panoramic view & rear view

1. Intuitive parking assist
   When a sensor detects an obstacle, the display indicates the direction of the detected object and its approximate distance from the vehicle, while the buzzer sounds to alert the driver.
2. Rear Cross Traffic Alert
   When a sensor detects an approaching object, the system displays the direction from which the object is detected and sounds the buzzer to warn the driver.
3. RCD (Rear Camera Detection)
   When the rear camera detects a pedestrian behind the vehicle, the corresponding detection information is displayed to assist the driver in recognizing the person.
4. Guide line switching button
   Select this button to change between the available guide line modes shown on the rear camera display.
5. Display mode switching buttons
   Use the available button selections and combinations to change the monitor to different rear and panoramic camera screens.
6. Center guide line on/off button
   Select this button to turn the center guide line on or off according to the desired display configuration.

Wide rear view

1. Intuitive parking assist
   When a sensor detects an obstacle, the display indicates the direction of the detected object and its approximate distance from the Toyota Tacoma. At the same time, the buzzer sounds to provide an audible warning while the vehicle is being maneuvered.
2. Rear Cross Traffic Alert
   When the system detects an object approaching from the rear side area, the direction of the detected object is shown on the display and the buzzer sounds to alert the driver.
3. Guide line switching button
   Select this button to change between the available guide line modes shown on the rear camera display.
4. Display mode switching buttons
   Use the available buttons and their combinations to switch the monitor between the different rear and panoramic camera views.
5. Center guide line on/off button
   Select this control to show or hide the center guide line according to the desired rear-view display configuration.
6. Zoom button
   Each press of this button changes the display between wide rear view mode, narrow rear view mode, and hitch view mode, allowing the driver to select the view most suitable for the current reversing situation.
7. RCD (Rear Camera Detection)
   When the rear camera detects a pedestrian behind the vehicle, the corresponding detection information is displayed to assist the driver in recognizing the person.

Rear split view

1. Intuitive parking assist
   If a sensor identifies an obstacle, the monitor shows the direction of the object and its approximate distance from the vehicle, while the buzzer sounds as an additional warning.
2. Rear Cross Traffic Alert
   When an approaching object is detected, its direction is indicated on the display and the buzzer sounds, helping the driver recognize traffic moving across the rear of the Toyota Tacoma.
3. RCD (Rear Camera Detection)
   When the rear camera identifies a pedestrian behind the vehicle, the system provides the corresponding rear camera detection indication.
4. Guide line switching button
   Select this button to switch between the available rear guide line modes.
5. Camera angle adjustment
   Use this control to change the viewing angle of the applicable rear camera image.
6. Zoom button
   Select this control to change the magnification or available rear camera viewing mode as supported by the current display.

• The rear camera monitor is canceled when the shift lever is moved from R to any other position. The previously applicable vehicle display will then be restored according to the operating condition.
• Refer to the corresponding information for additional details about the intuitive parking assist, Rear Cross Traffic Alert function, and rear camera detection system.
• The location of an intuitive parking assist indication on the screen does not necessarily correspond exactly to the position of the obstacle shown in the camera image. Use both displays as references and visually confirm the actual surroundings before continuing to reverse.

WARNING

• If a sensor indicator on the intuitive parking assist display illuminates in red or the buzzer sounds continuously, immediately check the entire area around the Toyota Tacoma. Do not continue moving until you have confirmed that it is safe to proceed. Failing to verify the surroundings could result in an unexpected collision or accident.
• Because the intuitive parking assist and Rear Cross Traffic Alert indications are superimposed over the camera image, they may sometimes be difficult to distinguish clearly. Their visibility can vary with the color, brightness, and contrast of the surrounding area displayed on the screen, so the driver should not depend solely on these visual indicators.

 Guide lines displayed on the screen

Each time the guide line switching button is selected, the rear camera display changes to the next available guide line mode. These modes provide different visual references for judging the path, position, and distance of the Toyota Tacoma while reversing.

Estimated course line

Estimated course lines are displayed and move in response to steering wheel operation. As the steering angle changes, the lines indicate the approximate path the vehicle is expected to follow while backing up.

1. Distance guide lines
   Provide a reference for distance relative to the vehicle.
   • The displayed points indicate positions approximately 3 ft. (1 m) from the edge of the bumper.
2. Estimated course lines
   Show the approximate reversing path of the vehicle as the steering wheel is turned, helping the driver judge the direction in which the Toyota Tacoma is expected to move.
3. Distance guide lines
   Indicate reference distances behind the vehicle while the steering wheel is turned.
   • These guide lines move together with the estimated course lines as the steering angle changes.
   • The lines indicate positions approximately 1.5 ft. (0.5 m) in red and approximately 3 ft. (1 m) in yellow from the center of the bumper edge.
4. Distance guide line
   Provides an additional reference for the distance directly behind the vehicle.
   • The blue line indicates a point approximately 1.5 ft. (0.5 m) from the edge of the bumper.
5. Vehicle width guide lines
   Show a reference path representing the vehicle's width when backing straight up, helping the driver judge the space available on both sides.
6. Vehicle center guide line
   Indicates the estimated centerline of the vehicle projected onto the ground, providing a reference for aligning the Toyota Tacoma while reversing.

Parking assist guide line

The steering wheel return points are displayed as parking assist guide lines, providing a visual reference for positioning the Toyota Tacoma while backing into a parking space.

This mode is intended for drivers who are comfortable parking the vehicle without relying on the estimated course lines and who prefer to judge the reversing path using the parking assist guide lines and direct observation.

1. Distance guide lines
   Indicate a reference distance in relation to the vehicle.
   • The displayed points represent positions approximately 3 ft. (1 m) from the edge of the bumper.
2. Distance guide line
   Indicates a reference distance behind the Toyota Tacoma.
   • The red line represents a point approximately 1.5 ft. (0.5 m) from the edge of the bumper.
3. Vehicle center guide line
   Shows the estimated center of the vehicle projected onto the ground, helping the driver judge alignment while reversing.
4. Vehicle width guide lines
   Represent the approximate path and width of the vehicle when it is backed straight up.
5. Parking assist guide lines
   Indicate the path corresponding to the smallest possible turn behind the vehicle, providing a reference for steering during parking maneuvers.

Distance guide line

In this mode, only the distance guide line is displayed, leaving the screen free of the additional parking assist or estimated course line references.

This display is recommended for drivers who are comfortable parking the Toyota Tacoma without assistance from the other guide lines and who primarily use the camera image and distance reference while maneuvering.

Center guide line

When the center guide line display is turned ON, the vehicle center reference is shown together with the guide lines used by the currently selected estimated course line, parking assist guide line, or distance guide line mode.

The vehicle center guide line indicates the estimated center of the Toyota Tacoma on the ground and changes in accordance with steering wheel operation, giving the driver another reference for the vehicle's intended alignment.

   Indicates the estimated center of the vehicle on the ground and provides a visual reference for positioning while reversing.

The location of the intuitive parking assist indication on the monitor does not necessarily correspond exactly to the position of an obstacle shown in the camera image. Use these indications as separate references and confirm the actual surroundings visually before proceeding.

WARNING

• The position of the guide lines displayed on the screen can change depending on vehicle conditions, including the number of passengers and the amount or distribution of luggage. These factors can alter the posture of the Toyota Tacoma, so always inspect the surrounding area directly before moving.
• If the steering wheel is centered but the vehicle width guide lines and estimated course lines do not align correctly, have the vehicle inspected by your Toyota dealer before relying on the displayed guidance.
• Do not rely on the system when the displayed guidance is inaccurate because the vehicle is on an uneven or hilly surface, or when traveling on a curved or otherwise non-straight road.

 Changing the rear view mode

Each time the zoom button is pressed, the rear camera display changes to the next available viewing mode, allowing the driver to select the perspective most appropriate for the current reversing situation.

1. Wide rear view for displaying a broader area behind the vehicle
2. Narrow rear view for a more focused view directly behind the Toyota Tacoma
3. Hitch zoom view for obtaining a magnified image of the hitch area

• The hitch zoom view can be displayed temporarily by pressing while the vehicle is traveling at a speed of approximately 10 mph (16 km/h) or more. This provides a closer view of the hitch area for the permitted display period.
• While the applicable camera screen is displayed, pressing the switch changes between the hitch zoom view and the bed zoom view, allowing the driver to select the area that needs to be checked.

 Using the rear split view

When towing a trailer, the rear split view can be used to enlarge areas behind the Toyota Tacoma that may otherwise be difficult to see. The screen configuration and camera direction can also be adjusted as needed, providing a clearer visual reference when checking the trailer, hitch area, or surrounding space.

1. Zoom button
   Select this button to magnify the rear split view that is currently displayed, making details within the selected rear camera area easier to examine.
2. Camera angle adjustment button
   Use this control to change the camera viewing direction from left to right through 5 available stages, allowing the displayed area to be positioned according to what needs to be checked.

 Parking

 Using the estimated course line

When backing into a parking space located on the opposite side from the space illustrated in the following procedure, perform the same basic steps with the steering directions reversed. Continue to check the actual surroundings of the Toyota Tacoma throughout the maneuver.

1. Shift the shift lever to R to display the applicable rear camera view and parking guide lines.

2. Turn the steering wheel until the estimated course lines extend into the intended parking space, then begin backing up slowly while confirming the position of the vehicle relative to the dividing lines.

3. After the rear portion of the Toyota Tacoma has entered the parking space, turn the steering wheel as necessary so that the vehicle width guide lines remain within the left and right dividing lines of the space. Continue reversing carefully while checking both the display and the actual surroundings.

4. When the vehicle width guide lines appear parallel with the parking space dividing lines, return the steering wheel to the straight-ahead position. Continue backing up slowly until the vehicle is fully positioned within the parking space.

5. Stop the Toyota Tacoma at an appropriate position within the space, confirm that the vehicle is properly placed, and complete the parking maneuver.

 Using parking assist guide line

When parking in a space located in the opposite direction from the example described below, follow the same sequence while reversing the steering directions. Use the parking assist guide line as a reference rather than relying on the screen alone.

1. Shift the shift lever to R to activate the applicable rear camera display.

2. Back up slowly until the parking assist guide line reaches the edge of the parking space dividing line shown in the illustration. Check the vehicle's actual position as you approach this reference point.

3. Turn the steering wheel fully to the left and continue backing up slowly, monitoring the path of the vehicle and the space available around it.

4. Once the Toyota Tacoma is parallel with the parking space, straighten the steering wheel and continue reversing slowly until the vehicle has completely entered the space and is properly aligned.

5. Stop the vehicle at an appropriate position, confirm the final placement within the parking space, and finish parking.
