Anchor brackets (for top tether strap)
Anchor brackets are provided for the passenger seat and are designed to secure the top tether strap of a compatible child restraint system.
Use the anchor brackets when attaching the top tether strap, and make sure the restraint is installed correctly before placing a child in the seat.

Fixing the top tether strap to the anchor bracket
Install the child restraint system in accordance with the operation manual supplied with the child restraint system. Follow the specified sequence carefully so the restraint and top tether strap are secured in their intended positions.
1. Remove the head restraint to provide the necessary clearance for child restraint installation.

2. Remove the anchor bracket cover to gain access to the top tether anchor.
Store the removed cover in a safe place, such as the glove box, so it can be reinstalled later when the anchor bracket is no longer being used.

3. Place the child restraint system on the seat so that it is facing the front of the vehicle. Position it firmly against the seat as instructed by the restraint manufacturer.
4. Secure the child restraint system using the seat belt, following the correct belt routing specified for the restraint.
5. Attach the top tether hook to the anchor bracket and tighten the top tether strap until the restraint is held securely.
Make sure the top tether strap is securely latched to the correct anchor bracket, properly tensioned, and not twisted.

6. If the head restraint does not interfere with the child restraint system installation, reinstall the head restraint and confirm that it does not disturb the position of the restraint or tether strap.

Laws and regulations pertaining to anchors
The LATCH system used in the Toyota Tacoma conforms to FMVSS225 or CMVSS210.2 requirements.
Child restraint systems conforming to FMVSS213 or CMVSS213 specifications can be used when they are appropriate for the vehicle and installed according to their manufacturer's instructions.
This vehicle is designed to conform to SAE J1819.
WARNING
When installing a child restraint system
Observe the following precautions whenever securing a child restraint system with the top tether anchor.
Failure to follow these precautions may result in death or serious injury.
- Firmly attach the top tether strap to the designated anchor and make sure that the strap is not twisted. Check its tension after installation.
- Do not attach the top tether strap to anything other than the specified anchor bracket. Using another attachment point may prevent the restraint from being secured correctly.
- Follow all installation instructions provided by the child restraint system manufacturer, including instructions for seat belt routing and top tether adjustment.
- When installing the child restraint system with the head restraint raised, after the head restraint has been raised and the anchor bracket connection has been secured, do not lower the head restraint if doing so would interfere with the restraint or tether strap.
- If the Toyota Tacoma seat is adjusted after installation, reconfirm that the child restraint system remains firmly secured and that the top tether strap is still correctly attached and tensioned.
