The Toyota Tacoma power back window can be operated while the engine switch is in ON.
Operating the power back windows after turning the engine off
The power back window remains operable for approximately 43 seconds after the engine switch is turned to ACC or switched off. During this period, the window can still be opened or closed using its control. However, operation is no longer available once either front door has been opened.
Power back window open warning buzzer
If the power back window is still open when the engine switch is turned off and the driver's door is opened, a warning buzzer sounds and a message is displayed on the multi-information display in the instrument cluster. This warning alerts the driver that the Toyota Tacoma power back window has not been closed before leaving the vehicle.

Observe the following precautions whenever operating or closing the power back window.
Failure to follow these precautions may result in death or serious injury.
- The driver is responsible for all power back window operations, including operation that may affect passengers. To avoid accidental operation, particularly by a child, do not allow a child to operate the power back window. Children and other passengers may place a hand, arm, or another body part in the opening and become caught while the power back window is moving.
- Before operating the window, confirm that all passengers have their hands, arms, head, and other parts of their body safely away from any position where they could become caught by the moving back window. Continue to watch the area around the window until movement has stopped.
- When leaving the Toyota Tacoma, turn the engine switch off, take the key with you, and exit the vehicle together with the child. Leaving a child unattended may allow unintentional operation of the window controls through mischief or accidental contact, which could lead to an accident.
