Opening and closing the power windows
The Toyota Tacoma power windows can be opened or closed by operating the corresponding window switches.
Depending on how the switch is operated, the windows move as follows:

- Closing the window
- One-touch closing*
- Opening the window
- One-touch opening*
*: To stop the window before it reaches the fully open or fully closed position, operate the switch briefly in the opposite direction.
The power windows can be operated when
The power windows can be operated while the engine switch is in ON.
Operating the power windows after turning the engine off
The power windows remain available for approximately 43 seconds after the engine switch has been turned to ACC or switched off. During this period, the windows may still be opened or closed normally. However, this operation becomes unavailable as soon as either front door is opened.
Jam protection function
If an object becomes trapped between a closing window and its window frame, the Toyota Tacoma jam protection function stops the window and automatically lowers it slightly. This prevents the window from continuing its closing movement while the obstruction is detected.
Catch protection function
If an object becomes caught between the door and the window while the window is opening, the window movement will stop. This function responds during the opening movement when resistance caused by a caught object is detected.
When the side window cannot be opened or closed
If the jam protection function or catch protection function operates abnormally and a side window can no longer be opened or closed normally, carry out the following operations using the power window switch for the affected door.
- Stop the Toyota Tacoma before beginning the procedure. With the engine switch in ON, and within 4 seconds after the jam protection function or catch protection function has activated, continuously operate the power window switch in either the one-touch closing direction or the one-touch opening direction so that the side window can be opened and closed again.
- If the side window still cannot be opened or closed after the operation above has been performed, carry out the following function initialization procedure in the stated order.
1. Turn the engine switch to ON.
2. Pull and hold the power window switch in the one-touch closing direction until the side window is completely closed.
3. Briefly release the power window switch, then pull it again in the one-touch closing direction and keep holding it for approximately 6 seconds or longer.
4. Press and hold the power window switch in the one-touch opening direction. Once the side window has completely opened, continue holding the switch for at least an additional 1 second.
5. Briefly release the power window switch, then press it again in the one-touch opening direction and continue holding it for approximately 4 seconds or longer.
6. Pull and hold the power window switch once more in the one-touch closing direction. After the side window has completely closed, keep holding the switch for a further 1 second or longer.
If the switch is released while the window is still moving during this initialization sequence, repeat the procedure from the beginning so that every step is completed correctly.
If the window reverses direction and still cannot be fully closed or opened after the procedure has been completed, have the Toyota Tacoma inspected by your Toyota dealer.
Door lock linked window operation
- The power windows can be opened and closed using the mechanical key when this function is enabled.*
- The power windows can also be opened using the wireless remote control when the corresponding setting is enabled.*
- Vehicles equipped with an alarm: If the alarm has been set, it may be triggered when a power window is closed using the door lock linked power window operation function. Be aware of the alarm status when using this feature.
*: These functions require the corresponding settings to be customized by your Toyota dealer.
Power windows open warning buzzer
If one or more power windows remain open when the engine switch is turned off and the driver's door is opened, a warning buzzer will sound and a message will appear on the multi-information display in the instrument cluster. This alert reminds the driver to check the Toyota Tacoma windows before leaving the vehicle.
Customization
Certain power window functions and related settings can be customized to suit the available vehicle configuration.
WARNING
Observe the following precautions whenever operating the power windows.
Failure to follow these precautions may result in death or serious injury.
Closing the windows
- The driver is responsible for all
power window operations,
including operation of the windows used by
passengers. To prevent
unintentional operation, particularly
by a child, do not allow a child to
operate the power windows. A child or another
passenger could place a hand, arm, or other body part
in the window opening and become
caught while the power window is moving.
When traveling with a child in the Toyota Tacoma, using the window lock switch is also recommended to reduce the possibility of accidental passenger-window operation.
- Before opening or closing any window, check that all passengers have their hands, arms, head, and other parts of their body safely away from any area where they could become caught while the window is moving. Continue paying attention to the window until the operation is complete.

- When using the wireless remote
control or mechanical key to
operate the power windows,
first check the area around each window and make certain
that no passenger has a hand, arm, head, or other
body part positioned where it could become caught.
Do not allow a child to operate the windows with the wireless remote control or mechanical key. Children and other passengers can be injured if part of their body becomes caught by a moving power window.
- When leaving the Toyota Tacoma, turn the engine switch off, take the key with you, and leave the vehicle together with the child. Unsupervised access to the controls may result in accidental window operation through mischief or unintended use and could lead to an accident.
Jam protection function
- Never place any part of your body in the window opening for the purpose of intentionally activating the jam protection function. The function is a safety feature and should not be tested in this manner.
- The jam protection function may not operate if an object becomes jammed immediately before the window reaches the fully closed position. Keep hands, fingers, and other parts of your body clear so that nothing becomes trapped in the closing window.
Catch protection function
- Never use any part of your body, clothing, or another object to deliberately activate the catch protection function.
- The catch protection function may not operate if something becomes caught immediately before the window reaches the fully open position. Take care to keep parts of your body and loose clothing away from the moving window.
Preventing accidental operation (window lock switch)
The window lock function can be used to prevent children or other passengers from accidentally opening or closing a passenger window using the individual passenger controls.
Press the window lock switch to activate the function.
The indicator A will illuminate, confirming that the passenger window switches are locked.
The passenger windows can still be opened and closed from the driver's power window switches even while the window lock switch is on. This allows the driver to retain control of passenger-window operation in the Toyota Tacoma.

The power windows can be operated when
The power windows are available for normal switch operation when the engine switch is in ON.
When the battery is disconnected
The window lock switch becomes disabled when the battery is disconnected.
After the battery has been reconnected, press the window lock switch again if passenger-window locking is required.
