The alarm system uses both visual and audible warnings to alert the surrounding area when an unauthorized intrusion into the vehicle is detected.
When the alarm has been set, it may be triggered under the following conditions:
- A locked door or tailgate is unlocked or opened by any method other than the entry function or wireless remote control. The doors will automatically lock again as part of the system's response.
- The hood is opened while the alarm system is armed.
Setting/deactivating/stopping the alarm system
Items to check before locking the vehicle
To help prevent accidental activation of the alarm and reduce the risk of theft, confirm the following conditions before locking the Toyota Tacoma and setting the alarm:
- Make sure that no occupants remain inside the vehicle.
- Confirm that the windows and the moon roof, if equipped, are fully closed before the alarm system is set.
- Do not leave valuables, personal belongings, or other items inside the vehicle where they may attract unwanted attention.
Setting
Close the doors and hood, and then lock all of the doors. The alarm system will automatically become set after approximately 30 seconds.
When the system has been successfully armed, the security indicator light changes from remaining steadily illuminated to flashing, providing a visible confirmation that the alarm is active.
Deactivating or stopping
Perform either of the following actions to deactivate the alarm system or stop an alarm that has already been triggered:
- Unlock the doors using an authorized unlocking method.
- Turn the engine switch to ACC or ON, or start the engine. The alarm will be deactivated or stopped after a few seconds once the system recognizes the proper operating condition.
Setting the alarm
The alarm can be set when all of the doors are closed, even if the hood and/or tailgate remain open. Make sure you understand the system's operating condition before leaving the vehicle unattended.
System maintenance
The Toyota Tacoma is equipped with a maintenance-free type alarm system, and routine maintenance specifically for the alarm is not normally required.
Triggering of the alarm
The alarm may be activated in the following situations. Stopping an activated alarm also deactivates the alarm system.
- The doors are unlocked using the mechanical key while the alarm system is armed.
- A person remaining inside the vehicle opens a door, the hood, or the power tailgate* or unlocks the vehicle while the alarm system is active.
*: If equipped
- The vehicle battery is recharged or replaced while the vehicle remains locked, which may cause the alarm to activate.
Alarm-operated door lock
Under the following conditions, depending on the circumstances, a door may automatically lock as a security measure intended to help prevent improper or unauthorized entry into the vehicle:
- When a person remaining inside the vehicle unlocks a door and the alarm is subsequently activated.
- While the alarm is already activated, a person remaining inside the vehicle unlocks one of the doors.
- When the vehicle battery is being recharged or replaced and the alarm-related locking conditions are met.
NOTICE
To ensure the system operates correctly
Do not modify, disconnect, or remove the alarm system or any of its related components.
If the system is modified or removed, proper alarm operation and the intended theft-deterrent functionality cannot be guaranteed.
Pre-alarm
If a door is unlocked using the mechanical key while the alarm is being set, the pre-alarm will sound for approximately 10 seconds to warn that the security system has detected this unlocking action.
If the door is locked again or the pre-alarm is stopped within those 10 seconds, an alarm will sound according to the system's operating sequence.
Perform any of the following actions to deactivate or stop the pre-alarm before continuing to use or leave the Toyota Tacoma:
- Close the doors, and then lock all doors using the smart access system or the wireless remote control so that the vehicle can return to the proper secured condition.
- Turn the engine switch to ACC or ON, or start the engine. The alarm will be deactivated and will stop after a few seconds once the system recognizes the appropriate operating state.
