Operating the system
The security indicator light flashes after the engine switch has been turned off, showing that the Toyota Tacoma engine immobilizer system is active and operating.
The indicator light stops flashing after the engine switch is turned to ACC or ON, indicating that the immobilizer system has been canceled and the registered key has been recognized for vehicle operation.
System maintenance
The vehicle is equipped with a maintenance-free engine immobilizer system, so no routine service is normally required specifically for this theft-deterrent feature.
Conditions that may cause the system to malfunction
- If the grip portion of the key is touching or in direct contact with a metallic object, which may interfere with normal transponder communication.
- If the key is positioned very close to or touching another vehicle's security-system key that also contains a built-in transponder chip, recognition of the correct key may be affected.

Do not modify, disconnect, or remove any part of the engine immobilizer system.
