Observe the following precautions whenever children are traveling in the vehicle. Proper supervision and correct use of the available safety equipment are essential for protecting younger passengers.
Use a child restraint system that is appropriate for the child's size and needs until the child becomes large enough to correctly wear the Toyota Tacoma seat belt.
- It is recommended that children sit in the rear seats whenever possible to reduce the chance of accidental contact with controls such as the shift lever, wiper switch, and other equipment located near the front seating area.
- Use the rear door child-protector lock (if equipped) and/or the window lock switch to help prevent children from opening a door while the vehicle is moving or accidentally operating a power window.
- Do not allow small children to operate equipment that could catch, trap, or pinch body parts, including the power windows, hood, tailgate, seats, and similar moving components. Adult supervision should be maintained whenever children are around these features.

Never leave children unattended inside the Toyota Tacoma, even for a short period, and never allow children to possess or use the vehicle key.
Children may be able to start the vehicle or shift it into neutral, creating a risk of unintended movement. They may also injure themselves by operating the windows or other vehicle features without supervision. In addition, temperatures inside a parked vehicle can rise or fall rapidly; excessive heat or extremely cold conditions inside the cabin can be fatal to children.
