Observe the following precautions before starting off in the vehicle to help ensure safe operation and avoid conditions that could interfere with driving.
Installing floor mats
Use only floor mats specifically designed for a vehicle of the same model and model year as your Toyota Tacoma. A correctly matched floor mat is shaped to fit the intended footwell and retaining points. Install each mat in its proper position and secure it firmly to the carpet so that it cannot move during normal vehicle operation.
1. Insert the retaining hooks (clips) through the corresponding floor mat eyelets. Make sure each eyelet is correctly positioned over its retaining point before securing the mat.
2. Turn the upper knob of each retaining hook (clip) to lock the floor mat securely in place. Confirm that the mat remains flat against the carpet and is held by all of the designated retainers.
Always align the
marks A as shown so that the retaining hooks are positioned correctly.
The shape and appearance of the retaining hooks (clips) may differ from those shown in the illustration. Regardless of their design, verify that the floor mat is fully secured by the retaining system provided in the vehicle.
WARNING Observe the following precautions whenever installing, removing, cleaning, or checking the driver's floor mat.
Failure to follow these precautions may allow the driver's floor mat to shift from its correct position and interfere with the accelerator, brake, or clutch pedal while driving. This interference could cause unintended vehicle acceleration or make it difficult to operate the pedals correctly and stop the vehicle.
Such a condition could lead to an accident, resulting in death or serious injury.
When installing the driver's floor mat
- Do not use floor mats designed for another vehicle model or a different model year, even if they are Toyota Genuine floor mats. Use only mats that are intended for the specific Toyota Tacoma configuration.
- Use only a floor mat specifically designed for the driver's seat. A mat intended for another seating position may not fit the driver's footwell or retaining points correctly.
- Always install the driver's floor mat securely using all of the retaining hooks (clips) provided. After installation, pull lightly on the mat to verify that it is held firmly in place.
- Do not place two or more floor mats on top of each other. Stacked mats can increase the height of the floor surface and may interfere with pedal movement.
- Do not install the floor mat with its bottom side facing upward or with the mat upside-down. Position it only in its intended orientation.
Before driving
- Check that the driver's floor mat is securely fixed in the correct position with all of the provided retaining hooks (clips). Pay particular attention to this check after cleaning the floor, removing the mat, or reinstalling it, as the retainers may not have been fully engaged.
- With the engine stopped and the shift lever in P for an automatic transmission or N for a manual transmission, fully depress each pedal to the floor. Confirm that every pedal moves through its full travel without touching, catching on, or becoming obstructed by the floor mat.
