If a rear radar sensor detects a vehicle approaching from the right or left behind the Toyota Tacoma and the system determines that the risk of a collision is high, the Parking Support Brake function can automatically apply braking to help reduce the likelihood or severity of an impact with the approaching vehicle.

This function may operate in situations such as the following when an approaching vehicle is detected behind the Toyota Tacoma and enters the relevant traveling path while the vehicle is reversing.

Types of sensors

 The Parking Support Brake function (moving vehicles rear of the vehicle) will operate when

The function can operate when the driving assist information indicator is not illuminated and all of the applicable conditions below are satisfied:

  • Engine output restriction control
    • The Parking Support Brake is enabled and available for operation.
    • The Toyota Tacoma is traveling at approximately 9 mph (15 km/h) or less.
    • A vehicle is approaching from the right or left behind the vehicle at a speed of approximately 5 mph (8 km/h) or more.
    • The shift position is in R.
    • The Parking Support Brake determines that stronger-than-normal brake operation would be necessary to avoid a collision with the approaching vehicle.
  • Brake control
    • Engine output restriction control is already operating.
    • The Parking Support Brake determines that emergency braking is necessary to avoid or reduce the severity of a collision with a vehicle approaching from behind.

 The Parking Support Brake function (moving vehicles rear of the vehicle) will stop operating when

The function will stop operating when any of the following conditions are met, depending on whether engine output restriction control or automatic brake control is active:

  • Engine output restriction control
    • The Parking Support Brake is disabled.
    • The system determines that the potential collision can now be avoided through normal brake operation by the driver.
    • A vehicle is no longer approaching from the right or left behind the Toyota Tacoma, so the condition that triggered the intervention is no longer present.
  • Brake control
    • The Parking Support Brake is disabled.
    • Approximately 2 seconds have elapsed since the Toyota Tacoma was brought to a stop by automatic brake control.
    • The driver depresses the brake pedal after the vehicle has been stopped by brake control, taking over braking responsibility.
