The color of the vehicle icon shown on the panoramic view monitor can be changed to better represent the appearance of the Toyota Tacoma on the display. This adjustment affects only the computer-generated vehicle image and does not change the operation of the camera system.
Changing the body color displayed in the panoramic view monitor
1. Display the moving view or see-through view screen on the panoramic view monitor.
2. Select
to open the vehicle body color settings.
3. Select the desired color from the available choices. The vehicle icon displayed by the system will then reflect the selected color.

The panoramic view monitor presents a combined image of the area surrounding the Toyota Tacoma, using information captured by cameras positioned around the vehicle.
Because the panoramic image is processed on the assumption that the road surface is flat, it cannot accurately reproduce the position of three-dimensional objects that extend above ground level, such as vehicle bumpers. For example, the display may appear to show sufficient clearance between the bumpers of two vehicles even though, in reality, their projecting portions are positioned on a collision course. The apparent spacing on the screen should therefore not be interpreted as an exact representation of physical clearance.
Always confirm the actual safety of the surrounding area directly with your own eyes before moving the vehicle.

- Objects located within the shaded areas are outside the displayed camera coverage and will not appear on the screen.

- Portions of objects that extend above a certain height may fall outside the camera image processing range and cannot be displayed correctly on the screen.
- Because images from four separate cameras are processed and combined using a flat road surface as the reference, the panoramic view, moving view, and see-through view may reproduce nearby objects differently from their actual appearance.
- Objects may appear flattened, narrower, wider, or otherwise distorted compared with their real shape.
- An object positioned higher than the road surface may appear farther away than it actually is, or part of the object may disappear completely from the combined image.
- Tall objects may appear to emerge from or extend through areas that are not displayed because their upper portions fall outside the processed camera coverage.
- Differences in image brightness may be visible between the individual camera areas because each camera captures the surroundings from a different position and lighting angle.
- The displayed image may shift if the Toyota Tacoma body is tilted or its height changes. Such changes can occur depending on factors including the number of occupants, the amount or distribution of cargo, and the quantity of fuel in the vehicle.
- If the front doors or tailgate are not completely closed, the camera positions required for correct image processing may be altered. In this condition, neither the applicable combined image nor the guide lines will be displayed properly.
- The apparent relationship between the computer-generated vehicle icon and the road surface or surrounding obstacles may differ from their actual physical positions.
- The black areas immediately surrounding the vehicle icon represent regions that are not captured by the cameras and therefore cannot be shown as actual camera imagery.
- Because several camera images are joined together to create the panoramic display, some portions of the combined image may be distorted or difficult to interpret, particularly around the image-processing boundaries.

Do not continue moving until you have confirmed that it is safe to proceed. Continuing without verifying the surroundings could result in contact with an obstacle or another unexpected accident.

- The areas immediately around both corners of the bumper are outside the displayed camera coverage and will not appear on the screen.
Wide rear view

- The areas near both outer corners of the bumper are not captured within the displayed wide rear view and therefore cannot be seen on the monitor.
Rear split view

The portion of the surrounding area visible in the rear split view changes according to the selected camera angle. Adjusting the view shifts the balance of coverage toward the left or right side of the Toyota Tacoma.

Bed view

- Camera coverage is limited. Objects positioned very close to either corner of the bumper or directly beneath the bumper may fall outside the captured area and cannot be seen on the screen.
- The portion of the surroundings shown on the display can vary according to the orientation of the vehicle and the shape or condition of the road surface.
- The camera is equipped with a special lens designed to provide the required field of view.
The apparent distance to objects in the displayed image may differ from their actual distance from the vehicle. Use the camera image as a visual aid rather than as an exact measurement of clearance.
- When using the rear split view with a trailer attached, a blind spot can be created by the trailer's length and height. Portions of the area behind or beside the trailer may therefore remain outside the visible camera image.
- In hitch zoom view, a backlit license plate, if equipped, may produce a visible reflection on the display and affect the appearance of the camera image.
- In bed zoom view, the portion of the cargo bed closest to the cabin is a blind spot and cannot be fully observed on the screen.
The camera
The cameras used by the panoramic view monitor are installed at several locations around the Toyota Tacoma, as indicated in the following illustrations. Each camera captures a different portion of the vehicle surroundings for use in the available monitor views.

Using the camera
If dirt or foreign material such as water droplets, snow, mud, or road debris adheres to a camera lens, the camera may no longer provide a clear image. Reduced image clarity can make objects and surrounding areas more difficult to identify on the panoramic view monitor.
When contamination is present, rinse the affected camera thoroughly with a large quantity of water, then gently wipe the lens with a soft, wet cloth. Clean the surface carefully to avoid damaging the lens while restoring a clear view.
NOTICE
- The Toyota Tacoma panoramic view monitor may not operate correctly or may display an inaccurate image under the following conditions.
- If a camera receives an impact, its installed position or mounting angle may change. Even a small shift can affect the alignment of the image shown by the system.
- Each camera has a waterproof construction. Do not remove, disassemble, alter, or modify a camera, as doing so may damage its sealing or lead to incorrect system operation.
- When cleaning a camera lens, first rinse it with plenty of water and then wipe it gently with a soft, wet cloth.
Do not rub the lens forcefully. Excessive rubbing may scratch the lens surface, reduce image quality, and prevent the camera from transmitting a sufficiently clear picture.
- Do not allow organic solvents, car wax, window cleaner, glass coating products, or similar substances to remain on a camera. If any such material adheres to the camera or lens, remove it as soon as possible.
- A sudden temperature change, such as pouring hot water onto the vehicle during cold weather, may temporarily affect normal operation of the panoramic view monitor.
- When washing the vehicle, do not direct strong or concentrated bursts of water at a camera or the surrounding camera area. Excessive water pressure may damage the camera assembly or cause a malfunction.
- Do not subject any camera to a strong impact, as this may damage the unit or alter its alignment. If a camera on the Toyota Tacoma receives a significant impact, have the vehicle inspected by your Toyota dealer as soon as possible.
Difference between the screen and the actual road
- The distance guide lines and vehicle width guide lines shown on the monitor may appear parallel with the dividing lines of a parking space even when they are not actually parallel. Always confirm the position of the Toyota Tacoma and the parking space boundaries directly with your own eyes.
- The apparent spacing between the vehicle width guide lines and the left and right dividing lines of the parking space may look equal on the screen even when the actual distances are different. Use the displayed lines as a reference only and visually check the clearance on both sides of the vehicle.
- The distance guide lines are calculated as a reference for a flat road surface. When the ground differs from this assumed condition, a margin of error may exist between the guide lines displayed on the screen and the actual distance or path of the Toyota Tacoma on the road.
When the ground behind the vehicle slopes up sharply
The distance guide lines are projected as though the surface behind the vehicle were horizontal. When the ground rises sharply, points located on the upward slope may appear farther from the vehicle on the monitor than they actually are.
As a result, objects on the rising surface can seem more distant than their true position. There may also be a noticeable difference between the guide lines displayed on the screen and the actual distance or course on the road, so direct observation of the area behind the Toyota Tacoma remains necessary.

When the ground behind the vehicle slopes down sharply
The distance guide lines are likewise projected on the assumption of a level surface. When the ground slopes downward sharply behind the vehicle, positions on the descending surface may appear closer to the vehicle than their actual distance.
Because of this change in perspective, objects can look nearer than they really are. The guide lines may therefore differ from the actual distance and path on the road, making it important to compare the camera image with the real surroundings before continuing to reverse.

When any part of the vehicle sags
If the vehicle's posture changes or tilts because of the number of occupants or the distribution of cargo, the relationship between the displayed guide lines and the actual position of the Toyota Tacoma can also change. In this condition, a margin of error may exist between the guide lines shown on the monitor and the true distance or course on the road.

Distortion of three-dimensional objects on the screen
When three-dimensional objects, such as vehicle bumpers or other projecting structures, are located nearby and extend above the road surface, use particular caution when interpreting the following camera displays. Their apparent position on the screen may not accurately represent their true clearance from the vehicle.
Panoramic view display (including magnified display)
The panoramic view processes and combines camera images using a flat road surface as its reference. For this reason, the system cannot accurately reproduce the position of three-dimensional objects that extend above ground level, such as vehicle bumpers. In the example shown below, the screen may appear to show sufficient space between the bumpers of two vehicles, suggesting that they will not make contact. In reality, however, the projecting portions may already be positioned on a collision course even though the displayed image appears to show clearance.

When approaching three-dimensional objects
The estimated course lines are designed primarily as a reference for flat surfaces such as the road. They cannot be used to determine the complete position or shape of three-dimensional objects, including other vehicles. The distance guide lines have the same limitation. When approaching an object that projects outward above the road surface, such as the flatbed or rear body of a truck, consider the object's full shape rather than judging clearance solely by where it appears relative to the guide lines on the screen.

Estimated course lines
The estimated course lines are calculated on the assumption that the vehicle is traveling over a flat road surface. Because of this, they cannot accurately represent the position of three-dimensional objects that extend above the road, such as vehicle bumpers. Even when another vehicle's bumper appears to remain outside the estimated course lines on the display, its actual position may place it within the path of the Toyota Tacoma and create a risk of collision.

Three-dimensional objects located above the road surface, such as an overhanging wall, raised structure, or the loading platform of a truck, may not be represented correctly or may disappear from the camera image entirely. Their upper portions can still extend into the vehicle's path even when the screen appears clear, so check the actual surroundings directly before proceeding.

A pillar positioned diagonally relative to the parking space may appear nearly perpendicular on the monitor because of the way the camera image is processed and displayed.
Although the screen may suggest that sufficient clearance exists, the actual diagonal orientation of the pillar can bring its upper section closer to the Toyota Tacoma than it appears. As a result, a collision may occur even though the displayed image seems to show a safe path.
Confirm the real position and shape of the pillar directly with your own eyes rather than judging clearance only from the camera display.

Visually inspect the complete area behind and around the vehicle before reversing, paying particular attention to objects that extend outward above the road surface.
In the example shown below, the truck appears to remain outside the estimated course lines, making it seem that the Toyota Tacoma can reverse without contacting it. However, the rear body or loading platform of the truck may project across the indicated path even though its lower portion appears clear of the lines. If the vehicle is backed up by following only the estimated course lines, it may strike the projecting portion of the truck.

Distance guide lines
Check the surroundings and the entire area behind the vehicle visually. The distance guide lines are reference indicators and cannot accurately represent the depth or projecting portions of every three-dimensional object.
In the example displayed on the screen, the truck appears to be positioned at point B when judged from its apparent relationship to the distance guide lines.
In reality, however, backing the Toyota Tacoma to point A would result in contact with the truck. The screen makes point A appear closest to the vehicle and point C appear farthest away. The actual distances are different from this visual impression: points A and C are the same distance from the vehicle, while point B is farther away than both A and C. This difference illustrates why three-dimensional objects should not be judged solely by their apparent position relative to the distance guide lines.

If you notice any of the symptoms described in the following information, identify the likely cause, perform the corresponding corrective action, and then check the panoramic view monitor again to determine whether normal operation has been restored.
