Bed hooks

Bed hooks are provided in the Toyota Tacoma cargo bed to help secure loose items and reduce unwanted movement while the vehicle is being driven.

Deck

 Tie-down cleats

The deck rail system allows the tie-down cleats to be inserted, removed and repositioned along the deck rails. Moving each cleat to a suitable location makes it easier to secure cargo according to the size and position of the load in the Toyota Tacoma bed.

• Installing the tie-down cleat

1. Turn the thumb wheel counterclockwise to loosen it, then press the wheel inward so the locking plate maintains a gap of approximately 0.5 in. (12.7 mm). This clearance allows the locking plate to enter the deck rail correctly.

2. Insert the locking plate into the deck rail, rotate the tie-down cleat 90º into its operating position, and release the thumb wheel so the locking mechanism can engage the rail.

3. Slide the cleat along the deck rail toward the nearest detent. As the locking plate reaches the correct position, it should snap into the detent and hold the cleat in place.

If a tonneau cover is installed, position the cleat where it will not obstruct the cover as it closes or prevent the latching mechanism from engaging correctly.

4. Turn the thumb wheel clockwise until the clutch mechanism begins to ratchet. This indicates that the cleat has been tightened to its intended secured position.

5. Pull and check the tie-down cleat to verify that the locking plate is engaged in a detent and that the cleat is firmly mounted to the Toyota Tacoma deck rail system before attaching cargo.

Tie-down cleat precautions

• Install every tie-down cleat correctly and tighten it securely in the deck rail system before using it to restrain cargo.

  An incorrectly positioned or insufficiently tightened cleat can allow the attached load to become loose while the Toyota Tacoma is moving.

  Cargo that is not properly restrained may shift, slide or strike an occupant or surrounding object, creating a risk of injury.

• Do not apply a load to a bed cleat at an angle greater than 45 degrees from horizontal, and do not apply loads exceeding 220 lb. (100 kg). Exceeding either limit can damage the bed, bed rail system, tie-down cleat or the cargo itself and may compromise the load restraint.

  Once cargo becomes unsecured, its movement while driving can create a serious risk of injury.

• Secure all cargo so it cannot shift, slide or move significantly as the vehicle accelerates, turns or brakes.

  Improperly restrained cargo can move unexpectedly while the vehicle is in motion and may cause injury.

• When using a tonneau cover, verify that the position of every tie-down cleat allows the cover to close and latch completely. If a cleat interferes with proper latching, the tonneau cover could become loose or detach while driving and may cause injury.

The movable bed divider with molle panel can be positioned against cargo in the Toyota Tacoma bed to limit unwanted movement during driving. Its location can be adjusted along the rail system to suit different cargo sizes and loading arrangements.

1. Rotate the thumb wheel counterclockwise to loosen the mechanism, then depress the wheel so the locking plate maintains a 0.5 in. (12.7 mm) gap for insertion into the deck rail.

2. Insert the locking plate into the deck rail and release the thumb wheel once the divider mounting hardware is correctly seated in the rail.

3. Slide the thumb wheel assembly along the rail until it reaches the closest detent. Positioning the mechanism at a detent allows the locking plate to engage securely.

4. Turn the thumb wheel clockwise until the clutch mechanism ratchets, indicating that the bed divider mounting point has been tightened.

5. Check the bed divider after installation and confirm that it is securely mounted to the deck rail system. The divider should remain firmly positioned before cargo is placed against it.

WARNING

Bed divider with molle panel precautions

Secure cargo properly before driving and do not rely on the bed divider alone to restrain an unstable load. Cargo that is able to shift or move inside the Toyota Tacoma bed may become dangerous during braking, cornering or a collision and could result in death or serious injury.
