The wiper lever can be used to select manual or intermittent windshield wiper operation and to activate the windshield washer when cleaning the glass is necessary.
NOTICE
When the windshield is dry
Do not operate the windshield wipers on a dry windshield. Running the blades without sufficient moisture can scratch or otherwise damage the glass and may also place unnecessary wear on the wiper blades.
Operating the wiper lever
Operating the
lever controls the Toyota Tacoma windshield wipers and washer as described below. When intermittent wiper operation is selected, the interval between wiping cycles can also be adjusted to suit the current amount of rain or moisture on the windshield.

When intermittent operation is selected, the wiping interval can be changed according to visibility and weather conditions. Adjusting the control changes how frequently the Toyota Tacoma wipers sweep across the windshield.
- Increases the intermittent windshield wiper frequency, shortening the time between wiping cycles.
- Decreases the intermittent windshield wiper frequency, increasing the time between wiping cycles.

Washer/wiper dual operation — washer fluid is sprayed onto the windshield while the wipers operate to clean the glass.
Pulling the lever toward you activates the windshield washer and operates the wipers together. Release the lever when sufficient washer fluid has been applied and the windshield has been cleaned.

The windshield wiper and washer system can be operated while the engine switch is in ON.
If no windshield washer fluid sprays
If washer fluid is present in the windshield washer reservoir but no fluid reaches the glass, inspect the washer nozzles for blockage. A restricted nozzle may prevent the fluid from spraying correctly even though the reservoir is not empty.
Using the voice control system
The voice control system can perform the following windshield cleaning operations without requiring direct use of the wiper lever:
- Operating the windshield wipers for a single wiping cycle.
- Operating the windshield cleaning washer. This voice-controlled function can be used only while the Toyota Tacoma is stopped.

WARNING
Caution regarding the use of washer fluid
In cold weather, do not spray washer fluid onto the windshield until the glass has warmed sufficiently. Washer fluid can freeze on a cold windshield and rapidly reduce forward visibility. An obstructed view can increase the risk of an accident resulting in death or serious injury.
NOTICE
When there is no washer fluid spray from the nozzle
If washer fluid does not spray, do not continue pulling and holding the lever toward you. Operating the washer pump continuously without fluid being delivered can damage the pump.
When a nozzle becomes blocked
If a washer nozzle becomes clogged, contact your Toyota dealer so the blockage can be handled correctly.
Do not attempt to clear the nozzle with a pin, needle, or another sharp object. Inserting an object into the opening can damage the nozzle and affect its spray pattern.
To prevent battery discharge
Do not leave the Toyota Tacoma windshield wipers operating longer than necessary while the engine is off. Extended electrical operation without the engine running can contribute to battery discharge.
