This vehicle is not designed to travel through deeply flooded roads or areas where water is continuing to rise. Do not enter a roadway that may become submerged. If flooding around the vehicle is expected to worsen or there is a possibility that the vehicle could be carried away by moving water, remaining inside may be extremely dangerous. Stay calm and follow the escape procedures below.
- If a door can still be opened, open it immediately and leave the vehicle through that door.
- If the doors cannot be opened, use the power window switch to lower a window and create an alternative escape route while the electrical system is still operating.
- If a window opens successfully, exit the vehicle through the window without unnecessary delay.
- If rising water prevents both the doors and windows from being opened, remain calm. Wait until water entering the cabin rises enough for the pressure inside the vehicle to become closer to the water pressure outside. Once the pressure difference has reduced sufficiently, attempt to open the door and exit the vehicle.
When the water outside rises above approximately half the height of a door, external water pressure can prevent the door from being opened from inside the vehicle.
Water level exceeds the floor
If floodwater rises above the floor and remains there, electrical equipment may become damaged. The power windows can stop operating, the engine may shut down, and the Toyota Tacoma may eventually become unable to move under its own power.
Using an emergency escape hammer*1
Laminated glass*2 is used for the windshield and certain windows on this vehicle.
Laminated glass is designed differently from tempered glass and cannot normally be shattered with an emergency escape hammer*1. Be aware of the glass type before relying on such a tool as an escape method.

How to distinguish laminated glass
Viewed from the edge or cross-section, laminated glass can be identified by its layered construction, consisting of two sheets of glass bonded together. Tempered glass has a different single-layer appearance.

Floodwater can damage the vehicle, cause the engine or electrical systems to stop operating, leave the vehicle immobilized, or cause it to become flooded or carried away.
