To open the hood of the Toyota Tacoma, first release the primary hood lock from inside the vehicle, then disengage the secondary catch at the front of the hood.

Opening the hood

1. Pull the hood lock release lever located inside the vehicle.

The primary latch will release and the hood will rise slightly, allowing access to the auxiliary catch.

WARNING

Pre-driving check

Before driving, verify that the hood is completely closed and securely locked in place.

If the hood has not latched properly, it could open unexpectedly while the Toyota Tacoma is moving. An obstructed forward view or loss of control may result in an accident causing death or serious injury.

When the hood is open

Turning the engine switch off does not always stop the cooling fan immediately. The fan may continue operating for a short period after shutdown. If the cooling fan is rotating, keep your hands, clothing, and body away from the fan and do not reach into the surrounding area of the engine compartment.

After installing the support rod into the slot

Check that the supporting rod is fully engaged in the selected slot and is holding the hood securely. An incorrectly positioned rod may slip, allowing the hood to fall onto your head or body and cause injury.

NOTICE

When closing the hood

Before lowering the hood, remove the supporting rod from its slot and return it securely to its retaining clip.

Do not attempt to close the hood while the support rod remains raised. Doing so can place excessive force on the hood and may cause it to bend or become damaged.

Positioning a high lift jack

Whenever a high lift jack is used, follow the operating and safety instructions supplied by the jack manufacturer. Carry out each step carefully and make certain that the equipment is suitable and correctly positioned before lifting begins.

When raising the Toyota Tacoma with a high lift jack, place the jack only at the specified lifting point. Incorrect placement can damage the vehicle, reduce lifting stability, or create a risk of personal injury.
