The head-up display projects a range of useful driving-related information and the current operating status of supported driving assistance systems onto the windshield, allowing the Toyota Tacoma driver to view key information without looking down at the instrument cluster.
System components
The meter display type setting of the head-up display can be changed to suit the available display preferences. The information shown will differ depending on the current driving conditions and the selected display mode of the Toyota Tacoma head-up display. Depending on the situation, relevant pop-up notifications may also appear to provide additional information to the driver.

Head-up display will operate when
The head-up display operates when the engine switch is in ON, allowing supported Toyota Tacoma driving information to be projected onto the windshield.
When using the head-up display
The head-up display may appear darker or more difficult to see when viewed through sunglasses, particularly polarized sunglasses. If visibility is reduced, adjust the brightness of the head-up display or remove the sunglasses so that the projected information can be viewed clearly.
Street name display
Only street names that are included in the available map data can be displayed by the navigation system-linked head-up display function.
WARNING
When using the head-up display
- Make sure that the position and brightness of the head-up display image do not interfere with safe Toyota Tacoma operation. Incorrect adjustment of the projected image position or brightness may obstruct the driver's view of the road and could lead to an accident resulting in death or serious injury.
- Do not continuously look at the head-up display while driving, as doing so may prevent you from noticing pedestrians, vehicles, objects on the road, or other hazards ahead of the vehicle. Use the display as a quick reference while keeping primary attention on the road.
NOTICE
Head-up display projector
- Do not place drinks, open containers, or other liquids near the head-up display projector. If the projector becomes wet, electrical malfunctions may occur and proper Toyota Tacoma head-up display operation may be affected.
- Do not place objects on the head-up display
projector or attach stickers, labels, or similar materials to its surface.
Doing so may obstruct the projector and interfere with the head-up display indications projected onto the windshield.
- Do not touch the inside of the
head-up display projector or insert
sharp objects, pointed edges, or similar items
into the projector opening.
Doing so may damage internal components and cause mechanical malfunctions that could prevent the Toyota Tacoma head-up display from operating correctly.
Using the head-up display
Changing settings of the head-up display
The following head-up display settings can be
changed through "
Settings" on the
multi-information display, allowing the driver to customize supported display characteristics.
- Enabling/disabling the head-up
display
Select this setting to enable or disable the Toyota Tacoma head-up display according to the driver's preference. - Brightness and vertical position
of the head-up display
Select to adjust the brightness and vertical position of the projected head-up display image for comfortable visibility. - Head-up display type
Select to change the head-up display type and choose from the available presentation modes. - Display angle
Select to adjust the angle of the head-up display so that the projected information can be positioned appropriately for the driver.
Enabling/disabling of the head-up display
If the head-up display is disabled, it will remain disabled even after the engine switch is turned off and then returned to ON. The selected Toyota Tacoma head-up display state is therefore retained between engine switch operations.
Display brightness
The brightness of the head-up display
can be adjusted through "
Settings"
on the multi-information
display. In addition to manual adjustment, the display brightness is automatically
adjusted according to the surrounding
ambient brightness to maintain suitable visibility.
Head-up display automatic position adjustment
If the preferred display position has been recorded in memory, the Toyota Tacoma head-up display will automatically adjust to the stored position, helping restore the driver's preferred viewing arrangement.
When the battery is disconnected
If the vehicle battery is disconnected, the customized settings of the head-up display will be reset. The preferred Toyota Tacoma head-up display settings may therefore need to be configured again after battery power is restored.
WARNING
Caution for changing settings of the head-up display
If the engine is operating while changing certain head-up display settings, make sure that the vehicle is parked in an area with adequate ventilation. In an enclosed location such as a garage, exhaust gases containing harmful carbon monoxide (CO) may accumulate and enter the Toyota Tacoma cabin. Exposure to carbon monoxide may lead to death or a serious health hazard, so sufficient ventilation must be maintained whenever the engine is running.
NOTICE
When adjusting the head-up display settings
To help prevent unnecessary battery discharge, make sure the engine is running while changing or configuring the head-up display settings. Keeping the Toyota Tacoma engine operating during these adjustments helps ensure that the vehicle's electrical system remains adequately powered.
Driving support system status
The head-up display can show the current operating status and relevant information for the following Toyota Tacoma driving support systems:
- Dynamic radar cruise control
- LTA (Lane Tracing Assist)
- LDA (Lane Departure Alert)
The information presented on the head-up display may differ in appearance, detail, or timing from the information shown on the multi-information display. For complete operating information, warnings, limitations, and display behavior, refer to the explanation provided for each individual driving support system.
Navigation system-linked display area
This area of the Toyota Tacoma head-up display presents information linked with the navigation system, allowing important route-related details to be viewed while driving. Depending on the current navigation operation, the following items may be displayed:
- Street name
- Route guidance to destination
- Compass (heading-up display)
Pop-up display
When specific conditions occur or additional driver information becomes necessary, pop-up information for the following systems may temporarily appear on the head-up display:
Driving support systems
The display may show a warning, suggestion, advisory message, or the current operating status of a relevant driving support system. This allows important information to be presented prominently when driver attention may be required.

The content shown on the head-up display may not always be identical to the information displayed on the multi-information display. Differences may occur in the amount or presentation of information. For additional details, refer to the operating explanation for each applicable system.
Warning message
Certain warning messages are displayed automatically when required according to specific vehicle conditions or detected situations. These messages are intended to bring important Toyota Tacoma operating information to the driver's attention when necessary.
Details and presentation of warning information on the head-up display may differ from the corresponding information shown on the multi-information display.
Audio system operation status
Audio system operating information is displayed when an audio remote control switch on the steering wheel is operated. This allows the driver to confirm certain audio operations without relying only on the main audio system display.
Hands-free system status
Relevant hands-free system information is displayed when the hands-free system is being operated, providing convenient status information within the driver's normal field of view.
When a pop-up display is displayed
When a pop-up notification appears, information that was previously being shown may temporarily disappear or be replaced by the pop-up content. After the pop-up display is no longer required and disappears, the previous display will automatically return.
Tachometer display area
The tachometer area displays Toyota Tacoma engine speed in revolutions per minute, allowing the driver to monitor current engine operation directly through the head-up display.
Head-up display is displayed when
The head-up display operates when the engine switch is in ON, provided the applicable display settings and operating conditions are satisfied.
- The tachometer is displayed when all of the following conditions are met:
- Driving support system information is not currently being displayed.
- Sport mode is selected.
- Full mode is selected as the head-up display type.
