The AUTO LSD system helps improve traction by using the traction control system to manage engine output and apply braking force when one of the drive wheels begins to spin.
The system is intended to be used only when a drive wheel of the Toyota Tacoma is spinning because the vehicle is stuck in a ditch or traveling over a rough or low-traction surface.
System operation
The AUTO LSD system is available only on 2WD models. It can operate while the vehicle is traveling at speeds below 62 mph (100 km/h). Use the following procedure to activate or deactivate the system when additional traction assistance is required.
To turn the AUTO LSD system on, quickly press and release
.
The "AUTO LSD" indicator light illuminates to confirm that the system has been activated and is ready to assist with drive-wheel traction.
Press
again to turn the AUTO LSD system off and return to normal traction control operation.
If the brake system overheats
If the brake system becomes too hot during AUTO LSD operation, the system temporarily stops functioning and a buzzer alerts the driver. At the same time, "Traction Control Turned OFF" is displayed on the multi-information display. Stop the Toyota Tacoma in a safe location and allow the system to cool. Normal driving can continue if conditions permit, and AUTO LSD operation will be restored automatically after a short period once the system temperature returns to an acceptable level.
WARNING
To avoid an accident
- Do not use the AUTO LSD system under ordinary driving conditions. Activate it only when one of the drive wheels is spinning because the vehicle is in a ditch or traveling over a rough or slippery surface where additional traction assistance is needed.
- Do not continue driving for an extended period with the AUTO LSD system left on. Turn the system off after the condition requiring its assistance has ended.
If these precautions are ignored, substantially greater steering effort may be required and the Toyota Tacoma may respond differently while cornering, making careful steering control especially important.
NOTICE
- Activating while driving
Do not activate the AUTO LSD system while a drive wheel is already slipping or spinning.
Allow the slipping or wheel spin to stop before switching the system on.
