Each tire pressure warning valve and transmitter is assigned its own unique ID code. Whenever a tire pressure warning valve and transmitter is replaced, the corresponding ID code must be registered in the vehicle so the tire pressure warning system can identify and monitor that wheel correctly.
Use the procedure below to register the ID codes with the Toyota Tacoma tire pressure warning system. The menu sequence differs depending on the type of multi-information display installed.
Vehicles with 7-inch display
1. Park the vehicle in a safe location, leave it stationary for approximately 20 minutes, and then start the engine before beginning the registration procedure.

A registration message will then appear on the multi-information display to show that the system is attempting to identify the tire pressure warning valves and transmitters.
While registration is underway, the tire pressure warning light will flash for approximately 1 minute and then remain illuminated. At the same time, "--" will appear in place of the inflation pressure for each tire on the multi-information display until the individual transmitters have been recognized.
6. Drive the Toyota Tacoma primarily in a straight direction, making occasional left and right turns, at approximately 25 mph (40 km/h) or higher for about 10 to 30 minutes. This driving period gives the system an opportunity to detect and register the transmitter ID codes.
When registration has been completed successfully, the tire pressure warning light will turn off and the inflation pressure reading for each recognized tire will appear on the multi-information display.
Registration may still be completed even when the vehicle cannot be driven continuously at approximately 25 mph (40 km/h) or higher, although a longer driving period may be necessary under those conditions.
If registration is still incomplete after the vehicle has been driven for 1 hour or more, stop the procedure and repeat it again from the beginning rather than continuing indefinitely.
7. After the ID codes have been registered, initialize the tire pressure warning system so the current tire pressures can be established as the system's reference values.
Vehicles with 12.3-inch display
1. Park the vehicle safely, keep it stationary for approximately 20 minutes, and then start the engine before accessing the tire pressure warning system settings.

A message will then appear on the multi-information display to indicate that the system is identifying the tire pressure warning valves and determining their wheel positions.
While registration is in progress, the tire pressure warning light will flash for approximately 1 minute and then remain illuminated. During this period, "--" will be shown instead of the individual tire inflation pressure readings on the multi-information display until the transmitters have been recognized.
7. Drive the Toyota Tacoma mainly in a straight direction, making occasional left and right turns, at approximately 25 mph (40 km/h) or higher for about 10 to 30 minutes. This driving period gives the tire pressure warning system time to identify and register the transmitters installed on the vehicle.
Once registration has been completed successfully, the tire pressure warning light will turn off and the inflation pressure for each tire will appear on the multi-information display.
Registration can still be completed if the vehicle cannot be driven continuously at approximately 25 mph (40 km/h) or higher, although a longer driving period may be required under those conditions.

8. After the ID codes have been registered successfully, initialize the tire pressure warning system so that the correct tire inflation pressures can be established as the operating reference values.
When registering ID codes
- ID code registration is carried out while the vehicle is being driven at approximately 25 mph (40 km/h) or higher. Suitable driving conditions give the system an opportunity to distinguish and recognize the installed tire pressure warning transmitters.
- Before beginning ID code registration, check that no other wheels equipped with tire pressure warning valves and transmitters are located inside or close to the Toyota Tacoma, as nearby transmitters may interfere with identification.
- Always initialize the tire pressure warning system after ID code registration has been completed. If initialization is performed before the new ID codes are registered, the stored initialization values will no longer be valid for the newly identified wheel set.
- ID code registration can be performed by the vehicle owner. However, the time needed for completion can vary according to traffic, road conditions, vehicle speed, nearby transmitters, and the surrounding driving environment.
- The tires will normally be warm after the driving required for registration. Allow them to cool before adjusting inflation pressure and carrying out tire pressure warning system initialization.
Canceling ID code registration
- If ID code registration has already been started and needs to be canceled, select "Change Wheel" on the multi-information display and press and hold the applicable control again to cancel the active registration process.
- After registration has been canceled, the tire pressure warning light will flash for approximately 1 minute when the engine switch is turned to ON and will then remain illuminated. The tire pressure warning system will return to normal operation once the warning light turns off.
- If the tire pressure warning light remains on even after several minutes have passed, the registration process may not have been canceled correctly.
To cancel it correctly, repeat the procedure used to start ID code registration, then turn the engine switch off before driving the vehicle.
If ID codes are not registered properly
- Under some conditions, ID code registration may take longer than usual or may not be completed successfully. Registration normally finishes within approximately 30 minutes.
If registration has not finished after about 30 minutes of driving, continue driving the Toyota Tacoma for a while longer under suitable conditions so the system has additional time to identify the transmitters.
- If the vehicle was not parked for approximately 20 minutes or longer before driving and beginning the registration process.
- If the vehicle is not driven at approximately 25 mph (40 km/h) or higher for a sufficient period.
- If the vehicle is being driven on unpaved roads, where driving conditions may make transmitter identification more difficult.
- If the vehicle is driven close to other vehicles and the system has difficulty distinguishing its own tire pressure warning valves and transmitters from those installed on nearby vehicles.
- If another wheel equipped with a tire pressure warning valve and transmitter is stored inside the vehicle or positioned close enough to interfere with identification.
If ID code registration is still not completed after the vehicle has been driven for 1 hour or longer, stop the process and repeat the entire ID code registration procedure from the beginning.
- If the Toyota Tacoma is driven in reverse while registration is underway, the information collected up to that point will be cleared. In this case, restart the registration procedure from the beginning so the system can identify the wheel transmitters correctly.
- Under the following conditions, ID code registration may fail to start or may not be completed correctly, preventing the tire pressure warning system from operating as intended.
Repeat the ID code registration procedure from the beginning after confirming that the required conditions have been met.
- If the tire pressure warning light does not flash slowly 3 times when you attempt to begin ID code registration.
- If, after the vehicle has been driven for approximately 20 minutes following ID code registration, the tire pressure warning light flashes for about 1 minute and then remains illuminated.
- If ID code registration still cannot be completed after repeating the procedure described above, contact your Toyota dealer for inspection and assistance.
Selecting wheel set
The Toyota Tacoma tire pressure warning system can store ID codes for a second wheel set, such as a set used for winter driving. The second set can be registered either by the vehicle owner or by a Toyota dealer.
Once a second wheel set has been registered successfully, either of the two stored wheel sets can be selected for use with the tire pressure warning system. Select the set that is currently installed on the vehicle so the system monitors the appropriate transmitters.
Operating conditions for the function
- The wheel-set change function works only when ID codes for a second wheel set have already been registered. If only one set is stored, selecting the change function in the menu will not switch to another wheel set.
- The system supports switching between the two complete registered wheel sets. Combining wheels from the two stored sets is not supported by this function.
How to change between wheel sets (with 7-inch display)
1. Install the wheel set you intend to use on the vehicle before selecting it through the tire pressure warning system settings.

After the initial indication, the tire pressure warning light will flash for approximately 1 minute and then remain illuminated while the system begins recognizing the selected wheel set.
After approximately 2 minutes, registration and identification of the second wheel set will be in progress, allowing the tire pressure warning system to begin recognizing the transmitters installed on that set.
The tire pressure warning light will turn off, and "--" will temporarily appear in place of the inflation pressure reading for each tire on the multi-information display while the selected wheel set is being recognized.
6. Initialize the tire pressure warning system. If the specified tire inflation pressure for the newly installed wheel set differs from the pressure used previously, initialization is required so the system can establish the correct reference values. If the specified inflation pressure remains unchanged, initialization does not need to be performed.
7. Drive the Toyota Tacoma mainly in a straight direction, making occasional left and right turns, at approximately 25 mph (40 km/h) or higher for about 10 to 30 minutes. This driving period gives the tire pressure warning system time to identify the transmitters and complete registration.
Registration of the second wheel set is complete when the tire pressure warning light goes out and the inflation pressure for each tire appears normally on the multi-information display.
How to change between wheel sets (with 12.3-inch display)
1. Install the wheel set you want to use on the Toyota Tacoma before selecting the corresponding set through the tire pressure warning system menu.

The tire pressure warning light will then turn off, while "--" will temporarily be shown for the inflation pressure of each tire on the multi-information display until the individual tire pressure readings become available.
7. Initialize the tire pressure warning system if required. When the specified inflation pressure for the installed tires differs from the setting used for the previous wheel set, initialization must be performed. If both wheel sets use the same specified inflation pressure, repeating initialization is not necessary.
8. Drive the Toyota Tacoma primarily straight, with occasional left and right turns, at approximately 25 mph (40 km/h) or higher for about 10 to 30 minutes so the system can complete identification of the installed transmitters.
Registration of the second wheel set is complete when the tire pressure warning light turns off and the inflation pressure for each tire is displayed normally on the multi-information display, confirming that the Toyota Tacoma tire pressure warning system recognizes the selected wheel set.
