Head restraints are provided for all seats in the Toyota Tacoma and are designed to support proper seating position when adjusted correctly.

Head restraint precautions

Observe the following precautions when using or adjusting the head restraints in the Toyota Tacoma.

Failure to follow these precautions may result in death or serious injury.

  • Use only the head restraints designed for each respective seat, and do not interchange them between seating positions.
  • Adjust the head restraints to the correct position whenever the seat is occupied.
  • After adjusting the head restraints, push down on them and confirm that they are securely locked in position.
  • Do not drive the Toyota Tacoma with the head restraints removed from occupied seating positions.

Adjusting a head restraint

 Front seats

  1. Up
    Pull the head restraint upward until it reaches the desired position.
  2. Down
    Push the head restraint downward while pressing the lock release button A, then release the button when the correct height is reached.

 Rear seats (If equipped)

Center

  1. Up
    Pull the head restraint upward to raise it to the required position.
  2. Down
    Push the head restraint downward while pressing the lock release button A.

Outer

  1. To use
    Lift the head restraint back to the neutral position and then push the head restraint downward until it is properly positioned for use.
  2. To fold
    Lift the head restraint while pressing the lock release button A, and then fold it forward carefully.

 Adjusting the height of the head restraints (front seat)

Adjust the front head restraints so that the center of each head restraint is positioned as close as possible to the top of the occupant's ears. Correct positioning helps ensure that the head restraint is used as intended.

 Adjusting the rear center seat head restraint (If equipped)

When the rear center seat is occupied, always raise the head restraint at least one level above the stowed position before driving the Toyota Tacoma.

Removing the head restraints

 Front seats

Pull the head restraint upward while pressing the lock release button A until the restraint can be removed from the seatback.

If the head restraint contacts the ceiling and cannot be removed easily, adjust the seat height or seatback angle to create sufficient clearance.

Center

Pull the center head restraint upward while pressing the lock release button A until the restraint is completely removed.

Pull the outer head restraint upward while pressing both lock release buttons A until it can be removed from the seat.

Installing the head restraints

 Front seats

Align the head restraint posts with the installation holes and push the restraint downward until it reaches the appropriate locked position.

Press and hold the lock release button A when lowering the head restraint as necessary during installation.

Center

Align the center head restraint with the installation holes and push it downward until it reaches the correct locked position.

Press and hold the lock release button A when lowering the head restraint during installation.
