The front seat belt shoulder anchor can be adjusted vertically to help position the shoulder belt correctly across the occupant's body. Before driving the Toyota Tacoma, set the anchor to a height that allows the belt to pass comfortably across the center of the shoulder without contacting the neck or slipping off the shoulder.
- To lower the seat belt shoulder anchor, press and hold the release button A while moving the anchor downward to the required position.
- To raise the seat belt shoulder anchor, press the release button A while moving the anchor upward until the desired height is reached.
Move the height adjuster up or down as necessary until you hear a click indicating that the anchor has locked into position. After adjustment, check that the anchor is securely engaged before using the seat belt.
WARNING
Adjustable shoulder anchor
Always make sure the shoulder belt passes across the center of your shoulder. The belt should remain away from your neck while also being positioned so that it cannot fall or slide off your shoulder.
Incorrect shoulder belt positioning could reduce the protection provided by the restraint system during an accident and may result in death or serious injury in the event of sudden braking, abrupt steering, or a collision.
Seat belt pretensioners
The Toyota Tacoma seat belt pretensioners are designed to help restrain occupants more securely when the vehicle experiences certain severe impacts or a rollover. Their operation depends on the seating configuration and the type and severity of the collision.
- Vehicles without rear seats:
When the vehicle is subjected
to a severe frontal or side
impact or rollover, the pretensioners
retract the seat belts
of the front seats to help securely
restrain the occupants.
The pretensioners are not designed to operate during minor frontal or side impacts, or during rear impacts.
- Vehicles with rear seats:
When the vehicle is subjected
to a severe frontal or side
impact or rollover, the pretensioners
retract the seat belts
of the front seats and rear
outer seats to help securely
restrain the occupants in their seating positions.
The pretensioners are not designed to operate during minor frontal or side impacts, or during rear impacts.
Replacing the belt after the pretensioner has been activated
If the Toyota Tacoma is involved in multiple collisions, a seat belt pretensioner that activates during the first collision will not activate again during a second or subsequent collision. Once activated, the affected restraint components require appropriate inspection and replacement as specified for the system.
PCS-linked control
If the PCS (Pre-Collision System) determines that there is a high possibility of a collision with another vehicle, the seat belt pretensioners are prepared for operation. This coordination allows the restraint system to respond appropriately if the conditions requiring pretensioner activation occur.
WARNING
Seat belt pretensioners
Observe the following precautions to reduce the risk of injury in the event of sudden braking or an accident. Proper seat use and correct operation of the restraint system are important for maintaining the intended occupant protection.
Failure to follow these precautions may result in death or serious injury.
- Do not place anything, such as a cushion, on the front passenger's seat. Doing so can distribute the passenger's weight incorrectly and prevent the sensor from detecting the occupant's weight properly. As a result, the seat belt pretensioner for the front passenger's seat may not operate as intended in the event of a collision. Keep the Toyota Tacoma front passenger seat free of items that could interfere with proper occupant detection.
- If a pretensioner has operated,
the SRS warning light will illuminate.
In this condition, the affected seat belt cannot be used as intended and must be replaced by your Toyota dealer. Do not continue relying on a seat belt after its pretensioner has activated.
